As a child, I heard many (dubious) stories of the “family castle”. My great grandma Bessie Weld was offered inheritance of a castle in 1935 or 1936, on the condition that she fly to Britain & pay some taxes! Of course, for a family in South Dakota during the Great Depression, this was a complete impossibility. Not much was known about this castle, but we did have (oddly) a box of mortar supposedly from the “family castle.” I thought this all a bit of wishfull thinking, until I read this article! Suddenly, I have the urge to take up the study of our geneology! -C. King (U.S.A.)
