It was a sad day to see my own father’s war medals and military keepsakes when he died in June 2008. My father Kenneth Dawson Wilsher also was a regular in the British Army, Kings Own trained at Beaconsfield and then later attached to a Gurkha regiment in Malaya. He also served in the Korean war. A photograph of Albert Wilsher in full military uniform was in amongst his keepsakes, my father’s grand uncle. Albert’s keepsakes is now passed on to my nephew, Jack Wilsher.

I am interested in Hubert Bernard Hodson. Do you know when he died, and at what age? I am researching Lone Farm which became Mary Vale in Busbridge, Godalming, Surrey. Hubert’s mother is recorded as living there in June 1916, after her husband Rev Hudson had died. The Times reported the death of her son-in-law Commander H L L Pennell in the battle of Horn Reef on May 31. Pennel had been a member of Scott’s Antarctic expedition. I’m interested to know how she came to be in Godalming having lived in Gloucestershire.
    Many thanks
