In common with many genealogists I have over the years built up a collection of links to various web sites and individual web pages that I trust. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could have a search engine that just returned results from those sites or pages. Back it 2006, Google released the technology that allows you to do just that.
With a Custom Search Engine, you can harness the power of Google to create a search engine tailored to your needs. You can include one website, multiple websites, or specific web pages. So in December I customized my own search engine to search just for Dorset related genealogy results. Which you can try at Dorset Genealogy Search Engine.
As of today the search is limited to 27 url’s which includes individual web domains, domain sub folders and individual web pages, examples of which are:
Web Domains
http://www.dorset-opc.com/
http://www.dorset-ancestors.com/
http://www.dorsetfhs.org.uk/
http://www.sdfhs.org/
Domain sub folders
http://www.cattistock.info/history/
http://people.bath.ac.uk/lismd/dorset/churches/
http://www.vectisjon.com/opc/
http://www.bmvdesign.co.uk/opc/
http://members.iinet.net.au/~suegar/
Individual Web Pages
If you find this Search Engine useful why not volunteer to help maintain it, or simply leave suggested web sites in the comments here.
