Miss Nora Stanton Blatch, a Granddaughter of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Crosses Seneca Lake, a Distance of Two Miles, in Two Hours.
Special to the Post Standard
Geneva, Aug 9 – Miss Nora Stanton Blatch of Ithaca, granddaughter of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, performed the remarkable feat of swimming across Seneca Lake yesterday afternoon, a distance of two miles. Miss Blatch started from the west shore, opposite Lochland, about 4 o’clock and reached the east shore at 6 o’clock, being in the water two hours. She was accompanied by several friends who were in two boats, one each side of her. This feat has been performed but a few times within the knowledge of the oldest residents. Miss Blatch is a student in Cornell University, where she is pursuing a course in mechanical engineering. Her mother, Mrs. Harriet Stanton Blatch, is an active woman suffragist and is a frequent visitor at the home of Mrs. & Miss Miller at Lochland

Nora Stanton Blatch DeForest Barney (Civil Engineer, Cornell, 1905) is my grandmother. My mother is Rhoda Barney Jenkins, architect. My great grandmother is Harriot Stanton Blatch, women’s rights and suffrage organizer. My great great grandmother is Elizabeth Cady Stanton, women’s rights adcovate. A lovely soup of values in which to grow up.
